Board Leadership Training Accelerator

Leveling up nonprofit board leadership across Los Angeles

The Board Leadership Training Accelerator prepares professionals to lead with purpose and impact as nonprofit board members. This intensive multi-day training equips aspiring and current board leaders with essential governance skills, strategic thinking tools, and practical frameworks for effective board service. Through experiential learning, expert facilitation, and peer collaboration, you’ll develop the leadership capacity to strengthen mission-driven organizations. Whether seeking your first board appointment or elevating current service, you’ll gain the clarity, credibility, and confidence to contribute meaningfully to the nonprofit sector.

  • Bring varied perspectives including varied professional backgrounds, lived experiences, identities, and worldviews to cohort learning.
  • Commit to growth by engaging actively with peers, practicing vulnerability, and deepening leadership capacity through experiential learning. 
  • Commit to full participation in all five scheduled program sessions (explore the program calendar for session dates and attendance expectations).

Format & Curriculum

Session Cadence

Five intensive sessions over consecutive weeks in October. The accelerated format activates learning, enables real-time application, and prepares you to lead with clarity in high-stakes governance settings. Attendance at all five sessions and a post-program virtual follow-up session is required. Review the program calendar for more details about session dates, times, and cadence.

Curriculum Themes

Sessions explore essential board leadership topics including governance frameworks, fiduciary responsibilities, strategic oversight, fundraising and resource development, advocacy and community engagement, and stewarding nonprofit sustainability. Content emphasizes practical application grounded in ethical, values-driven leadership.

Learning Approach

Coro’s experiential methods center active practice over passive listening. You’ll engage in case discussions, leadership simulations, peer exchanges, and reflective exercises. Facilitators create space for mindfulness, vulnerability, and authentic connection, fostering psychological safety for adaptive collaboration and innovation.

Program Philosophy

Coro’s approach emphasizes three core principles: active leadership practice as lifelong learning, relating productively across differences in identities and perspectives, and embracing curiosity and vulnerability as foundations for authentic leadership and meaningful change.

Cost & Financial Support

Tuition

Early application is encouraged as cohort spots are limited and tuition varies by deadline: 

  • $2,350 by July deadline
  • $2,550 by August deadline
  • $2,750 by September deadline. 

Thanks to the generous support of the Coro community, program cost is subsidized from $6,500.

Tuition Discounts

Generous donors have made funds available to provide a variety of tuition discounts. Each participant is eligible for only one discount, which is available for specific application deadlines as noted below.

  • 20% discount for Coro alumni (available for all deadlines).
  • 20% discount for participants paying out of pocket (available for August and September deadlines only).
  • 20% discount for organizations supporting two or more participants (available for September deadline only).

Employer Support

Organizations benefit when their team members develop governance and leadership skills. Coro encourages applicants to discuss financial support with their employers. Use the Program Benefits Guide to frame conversations about this professional development investment.

Application Process & Key Dates

How to Apply

Complete the online application sharing your board service goals, professional background, and commitment to nonprofit leadership. Review the Application Guide for detailed instructions and tips for crafting strong responses. Applications are reviewed holistically with priority for varied perspectives across industries, identities, and experiences.

Application Deadlines

Application portal open: June 2026

1st round deadline: ($2,550): July 2026
2nd round deadline ($2,750): August 2026
Final deadline ($2,950): September 2026

Selection Timeline

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with applicants notified within two weeks of each application deadline. Program tuition payments will be due typically two to four weeks from your decision notification.
