About Coro California
For more than 80 years, Coro has developed the leaders our communities and our democracy depend on.
From the beginning, Coro approached leadership differently. Rather than treating leadership as a title, a personality type, or a body of knowledge acquired in a classroom, Coro created a process of discovery grounded in direct experience. Participants learned by encountering institutions and communities up close, examining the forces shaping public life, questioning their own assumptions, and developing the judgment to lead amid complexity.
That founding insight is even more urgent today.
The challenges confronting California do not fit neatly within a single sector or organization. They require leaders who can understand interconnected systems, build trust across differences, and mobilize people around shared purpose. They also require something larger than individual leadership: the civic capacity to solve problems together.
Coro Northern California and Coro Southern California have united as Coro California, a single statewide organization that strengthens our work to prepare people for effective and ethical leadership. Unifying our teams allows us to reach more communities with programs that remain locally grounded and powered by a strong statewide infrastructure.
Programs
Since its founding, Coro has expanded across California and across generations.
Today, our programs serve high school students discovering their civic voice, emerging leaders beginning their careers, experienced professionals navigating organizational and sector-level challenges, and executives carrying significant responsibility. Participants come from government, business, nonprofits, labor, education, philanthropy, and community life.
What unites them is a willingness to become more reflective, more connected, and more capable of acting in service of something larger than themselves.
More than 15,000 alumni carry this work forward. They lead in elected office, corporate boardrooms, public institutions, nonprofit organizations, union halls, schools, small businesses, and community organizations. They continue applying Coro’s habits of inquiry, collaboration, and purposeful action long after their programs end. And they remain connected to one another, forming a statewide and national network that is both a living expression of Coro’s legacy and a vital resource for our civic future.
