From anchoring morning announcements at LA’s Crenshaw High to reporting on national platforms like CBS, CNN, ABC News Live and Fox Live Now, her journey has always centered around community and truth-telling.
LaMonica is a reporter for The LA Local covering South LA and Inglewood, and host of Black LA Uncovered, a video podcast that “spotlights the people, places and stories that shape the SOUL of Los Angeles.”
After earning a B.A. in Communication Studies from UCLA, she started on radio behind the scenes at KJLH-FM and at KPFK-FM, hosting The Peters Poll, a segment created to spark public dialogue on the Hutchinson Report. That spirit of curiosity and connection has taken her across the country— from Mississippi, where she earned a Mississippi Associated Press Award for public affairs, to Buffalo, NY, where she contributed to a public service series that received a New York State AP Award.
LaMonica’s reporting has aired in San Diego, Seattle, and the San Francisco Bay Area, where she covered everything from Silicon Valley, to elections and severe weather events.
She’s also taught media and journalism courses at Palomar College (San Diego), De Anza College (Bay Area) and Mississippi State University, helping students develop the skills and integrity needed for a career in media.
